NEW SOC 2 Type II Certified. Audit-ready from Day 1

Microsoft Teams Archiving Built for Enterprise Compliance

Capture chats, channels, calls, and meetings across your tenant in one unified archive. Close the gaps native retention leaves open, and produce a complete record the moment someone asks for it.

Dashboard with three KPI tiles: 2.4M+ archived messages, 100% capture rate, 2 active holds; below are rows with names, topics, and status badges.

⚠ The Exposure

Why Teams retention isn't the same as Teams compliance

Microsoft built Teams to keep conversations moving. It did not build a single system to preserve them. That distinction becomes expensive the first time a regulator or opposing counsel comes asking.

Your tenant is storing this in four different places, not one
Chats sit in hidden Exchange folders, channel posts sit in SharePoint, recordings sit in OneDrive, and calls often aren’t retained anywhere unless you’ve built a separate policy for them.
A hold doesn’t freeze what a user edits or deletes
Edited and deleted messages from a custodian on hold stay in that person’s personal mailbox, not the group mailbox most eDiscovery searches target, until the hold is lifted.
Visible in Teams and preserved for compliance are not the same thing
Microsoft’s own documentation warns that a deletion can take up to sixteen days to clear eDiscovery, while a message can vanish from the client well before that. Nobody can eyeball their way to compliant.

Platform Capabilities

Everything Compliance and IT Need in One Place

Capture

One tenant, four storage backends, one archive

Archon connects through the Microsoft Graph API and journals every message the moment it’s sent, so coverage never depends on a retention label reaching every location correctly.

  • Real-time capture across 1:1 chats, group chats, standard, private, and shared channels
  • Call detail records, recordings, and transcripts captured with the conversation they belong to
  • Edits and deletions preserved as separate, timestamped versions, regardless of hold status
  • 100% capture across desktop, web, and mobile clients, no configuration drift

eDiscovery

Stop reassembling one conversation from four separate exports

A discussion that moved from chat to a call to a channel post shouldn’t require three different search tools to reconstruct. Archon returns it as one thread.

  • Search by sender, channel, keyword, date range, or conversation type in a single pass
  • Reactions, mentions, edits, and file references stay attached to the original thread
  • Export production sets with metadata and chain of custody intact
  • Reviewer workflow with tagging, redaction, and privilege flags
Legal Hold

Holds that survive an edited message and a channel migration

Placing a custodian on hold suspends deletion and label overrides across everything they touch in Teams, including messages Microsoft’s own private-channel migration would otherwise split across two mailboxes.

  • One-click hold across a named custodian’s entire Teams footprint, or an entire channel
  • Deletion and retention-label conflicts suspended automatically the moment a hold is placed
  • Edits and deletions captured even when the underlying mailbox is mid-migration
  • Full audit trail of hold activity, built for court admissibility

Reporting

See the gap before it shows up in an audit

Purview splits visibility across three separate modules. Archon puts capture coverage, hold status, and access activity on one screen your compliance team actually checks.

  • Retention coverage by team, channel, department, or user group
  • Full access logs with timestamps, IP addresses, and actions taken
  • Exception reports flagging uncaptured channels or unmonitored calls automatically
  • Exportable to PDF, CSV, or straight into your GRC platform

Compliance Coverage

Coverage for the modalities native retention wasn't built to hold

Regulators judge a business communication by what was said, not which Teams surface it happened on. Archon treats calls and meetings with the same weight as chat and channel text.

  • Retain Teams data for up to 10 years with automated lifecycle rules
  • Produce one chain-of-custody export spanning chat, call, and channel evidence
  • Enforce retention independently of label conflicts, permissions, or user-level deletion
  • Real-time alerts the moment a channel or guest account falls outside policy

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. How quickly is Teams data archived after it's created?

Within seconds. Archon subscribes to Microsoft Graph change notifications, so chats and channel posts are journalled as they're sent. Calls and meeting recordings are indexed once Teams finalizes the recording file, typically within minutes of the call ending.

  • 2. Can a user or admin remove something from the archive by deleting it in Teams?

No. The archive runs independently of Exchange, SharePoint, and OneDrive. A user editing a message, an admin purging a mailbox, or a private-channel migration moving data between locations has no effect on what Archon already captured.

  • 3. Does Archon capture Teams calls and meeting recordings, or only chat?

Nothing changes in the archive. Once a message is Both, tied to the same conversation record. Call detail records, recordings, and transcripts are indexed alongside the chat and channel messages around them, so a reviewer gets full context instead of piecing it together from separate systems. captured, Archon's retention policy overrides local deletion and disappearing-message settings for enrolled numbers; the archived copy stays intact in tamper-proof, WORM-compliant storage regardless of what happens on the device.

  • 4. What happens to edits or deletions from a custodian on legal hold?

Archon preserves the pre-edit version as a separate record the moment it changes, including edits made in private channels currently going through Microsoft's group-mailbox migration, where the native copy would otherwise sit unreachable until the hold lifts.

  • 5. Where is our Teams data stored, and do you support BAAs and DPAs?

You choose your residency region at setup: US, EU, APAC, or a private cloud. Data is encrypted with AES-256 at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit. BAAs and DPAs are available and executed before your trial ends.
